Moving to San Antonio is one of those decisions that feels simple until you start making the list. Which side of town? How much could utilities actually run? Can the dog come? Do you need a car up here?
We field these questions weekly from people relocating here, so here are the real answers: the city, this corner of the north side, and life at 1938 E. Sonterra Boulevard.
San Antonio may offer lower living costs than some larger U.S. metros, but actual expenses vary by household, housing choice, utilities, transportation, and other factors. Compare current costs based on your own needs before making a move.
The Standard at Legacy sits on San Antonio's north side at 1938 E. Sonterra Boulevard. The immediate area is hilly and heavily wooded, master-planned, and served by North East ISD, with US-281 and Loop 1604 both minutes away.
Sonterra Boulevard is tree-lined, and many everyday errands, restaurants, and services are located within a short drive.
What is The Standard at Legacy's pet policy?

We are a pet-friendly, deposit-free community. Assistance animals are not pets and are handled through the reasonable accommodation process. Here are the current pet-policy details:
● Up to two pets per apartment home, counted across dogs and cats together
● 80 lb weight limit per pet
● A non-refundable pet fee of $350 for one pet or $600 for two, plus $25 monthly pet rent per pet
● Dogs, cats, caged birds, and fish are all welcome
● Breed restrictions may apply, so ask the leasing team for the current policy before you sign
On-site, there are two dog parks, including a gated run with agility equipment, plus an indoor pet spa and washing station, which come in handy after a muddy Hill Country walk. We host pet-parent events, and pet care is available through Spruce. You can see the full amenity list here.
Off-site, McAllister Park on Jones Maltsberger has an off-leash dog park that is sure to tire your pup after just a short visit.
How does parking and getting around work here?
Reserved garage parking spaces are available for $50 per month, subject to availability, with additional on-site lot parking and guest parking under our community policy. Electric vehicle charging is complimentary for residents.
The real advantage here is highway access, and sitting between US-281 and Loop 1604 covers most commutes. If you work downtown, it is a straight run south on 281, roughly half an hour outside of peak. If you work in healthcare, Methodist Hospital Stone Oak is barely a mile down Sonterra. The airport and UTSA are short highway hops. Both 281 and 1604 slow down during rush hour, so plan your commute for the hour you'll actually be driving.
What can you get done without a long drive?

The first weeks after a move are mostly errands, and this stretch of the north side handles them. H-E-B and Walmart are about 10 minutes away for the restocking phase; Legacy Shopping Center and The Vineyard cover coffee and dinner on nights when nobody wants to cook. And Main Event, a few minutes out, packs bowling, an arcade, and a ropes course under one roof, which is the easy answer for a rainy Saturday!
What outdoor activities are worth checking out?
Summers here are seriously hot, so outdoor time gets planned around early mornings and the long mild stretch from October through April. Most weeks that means staying close. Stone Oak Park is a short drive up the parkway, with wooded, leashed-dog-friendly trails that make it the easy pick for a walk before the day warms up, and McAllister Park is the same idea at a larger scale, with enough trail to actually tire a dog out.
For a full day rather than an hour, Guadalupe River State Park is about 40 minutes north, and the river is breathtaking. In the other direction, half an hour south, are the River Walk and the Pearl, a former brewery turned food hall that runs a farmers market on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Frequently asked questions
Is San Antonio a good city for renters? San Antonio may offer lower costs than some larger metros, and Texas has no state income tax. Actual monthly expenses vary by household.
Do I need a car in San Antonio? Many residents choose to drive because most nearby destinations are reached by road and public transit options are more limited in this part of the north side.
How far ahead should I start looking? Touring timelines vary because pricing and availability can change. Contact the leasing team before your move to discuss current floor plans and estimated availability.
Still have questions about moving to San Antonio?
We opened with four: which side of town, what it actually costs, whether the dog comes, and whether you need a car. You have those answers now. The rest are the ones only your own move raises, and those are best answered in person.
Schedule a tour and see the rest for yourself. Walk the floor plans, check out the dog park, and ask the team the questions that apply to your move. It is the fastest way to see that The Standard at Legacy is the place for you.
